Counting Sheep

This last week was ROUGH! I have been sucking at sleep for forever but I've been on a bad kick lately. I decided to try to get on some sleep meds. I met with my doc and tried some and they didn't help AT ALL and possibly made it worse. I had three nights in a row where I was awake the whole time and maybe slept 1-2 hours. When I've had insomnia in the past I was never working full time and knew I could take it easy the next day. This has been my first time not sleeping and having to get up and go to work and function ALL day! It was rough. I got a different prescription that I've tried this weekend that I think might work...maybe? I will be curious how it is tomorrow when I have to get up early to an alarm. I'm hoping it works because this busy lady needs SLEEP! That made for a long tiring week. I've made up for some lost sleep this weekend that's for sure. I watched a documentary on Ruth Bater Ginsberg and apparently she was a crazy work acholic who didn't sleep during the week and would make up for it on the weekend. I've definitely been channeling my RBG this weekend.

Everything else is pretty much same as always. We are going on a road trip starting this Friday for Scott's 40th birthday. I'm actually pretty ready work wise and have the next two weeks of plans figured out. I have an excellent sub lined up so it should be all good! Fingers crossed.

Goofy Kids

I designed this fox for my students to do in class. I couldn't find a pattern that worked so I had to create my own. We will see how they do. I figure hand sewing is a great way to fill a 95 min class because who wants to do worksheets and listen to lectures for 95 min?

Our crab apple tree looks really pretty for 2 hot seconds.

Ryan planted this watermelon plant from seed in class. It's growing! He's so proud.

Ryan was having a runny nose. It was very distressing to him if it were allergies, and how long would he have them and how did he get them?

We tinted our windows for our road trip!

More Scott shade plants?

10,000 Steps

I was wrong on my math last week...now it's 6 weeks left of school. Hot dang it! Ha. But who's counting? Having the students back full time means I have much less time to do prep work at school and I have to have good lesson plans. Ha. That was one of the advantages of me coming back into teaching this past school year was the online schooling. It was easy to give an assignment I knew wouldn't take longer than 20 minutes and it was fine. Now that they are back I have to really plan and make sure that I have 90 minutes of material. I am super ready for the school year to be done and to have a better plan next year so I won't be scrambling as much. I spent 3 hours lesson planning yesterday for my lessons this week. I'm hoping that will help me feel less maxed out during the week this week.

I signed up to do a stupid steps challenge with Boise High. I have to walk 10,000 steps everyday for a month. It's been fun and annoying to be a part of the challenge. It is hard to get that many steps everyday with my schedule. I was proud of myself for only doing 5,000 steps last Sunday because I was tired! No sense killing myself over a dumb challenge.

Scott has been gardening all day. He is planting tons of shade plants in our backyard. He even got our kids out working...they HATED it! Well that's all.

The kids had to pick up the pine needles.

Scott is planting all the beets today apparently.

Pretty sunset.

Cupcake Wars

Somehow last week crawled by. We did cupcake wars at school and that was a lot of work. Janet's classes went first and I went second. I don't know why but for some reason Janet was staying after school until 5-6:00 getting things ready and cleaned up for/after cupcake wars. Luckily I did not have to do that. I came in early to make the frosting and worked the whole class period and was able to get things cleaned up about 45 minutes afterwards. I think I work faster than she does or she's more meticulous? I think she's also not as good at having her students clean up the kitchen after themselves so she ends up doing extra work. The frosting made a lot of dishes that were hard to wash because it had shortening in it and our water doesn't get hot enough to wash it easily. In the end the students did a great job with it and had tons of fun. I'm glad it's over though. Now I need to come up with some hand sewing projects. There's always something. Ha.

On Friday night my friends and I had a girl's night for Lisa's birthday. It was fun but I was so tired. Friday nights are tough for me after the work week. I am just ready for sleepy times.

Scott has been busy as a bee with his gardening...literally. He's been hand pollinating and everything. The trees look so pretty with their flowers.

I can't think of much else. I have 6 weeks left of school. Let the countdown begin!

Krista bought us all matching jammies. She is the hostess with the mostess.

Beautiful Lisa's beautiful cake.

This was the overall winner. So good!

I Got The Phone Call...

This past week was much better than expected. I was pretty nervous about the new transition with having all of the students back and having block schedule classes (90 minutes plus) and with days with no cooking at all. Surprisingly I kind of liked having days with no cooking because it's a little break for me and the students are pretty used to the block schedule by now so they did just fine. I'm also a lot better at classroom management than I used to be so that's not stressful at all (minus my one scary high school student). Plus sometimes I come up with really good ideas and that helps. Ha. We are doing cupcake wars and for a non cooking day activity (because who wants to do boring assignments for 90 minutes?) I thought they could make signs to display with their cupcakes. I could even tie it in with the curriculum because running a business goes along with career exploration and marketing is an important part of that. Boom! The kids got really into it and did a great job. I loved seeing their creative artistic side.

It was also awesome because Boise High had to have online classes for 3 days because asbestos got released over spring break (Boise High is older than the hills) and they had to clean it up. I got to go home at 12:00. It was awesome. Ha.

It was also the most awesome because I got a phone call from my Principal at 5:45 pm on Tuesday. I thought the call was going to be about Covid BUT it was to offer me a full time job at North next year. Woot! I don't know the details exactly yet but I'm so glad I don't have to worry about trying to get a job next year. That is a huge relief. Junior High is my sweet spot. I am happy!

It was also better than expected because having some rest over Spring Break and not having to worry about my ISU classes right now or my Praxis test is so nice! My life feels much more manageable right now. Halleluiah!

The weather has been BEAUTFIUL the last few days. I love Boise in the spring because there are flowering trees everywhere. It is beautiful! Yesterday we dyed Easter eggs and did an Easter egg hunt. This morning the kids found their baskets and are now watching the new Croods movie. I will make a special Easter dinner tonight. Hopefully we will get out and enjoy the lovely weather today.

Last night we met our friends and went to dinner and the Adams' rented a movie theater room and we watched a terrible horror film. Scott was not on board for watching a dumb movie so he left after dinner. Sometimes I think watching crappy movies as a group can be highly entertaining and it was. Ha. Well that is about all for now.

Eek!

I have too many gray hairs so I need to blend them in with some highlights.

Yesterday Ryan came home and immediately said, “Mom I have an announcement to make that will blow your mind to the sky...I ran 8 laps.” Today he came home and said, “Mom I have good news and bad news. Which do you want to hear first?” Oh Ryan never grow up.

Our friend gave us their old hovertrax. Unfortunately the charger cable doesn't' work. I'm trying to find a new one.

Cute signs huh?

Nana sent Easter bags full of goodies! Thanks Nana!

Ryan's April tan line. I wonder what May will look like?

We tried a different egg dyeing method this year. Not great! It was kind of fun but didn't work great.
