Fun Filled Weekend

It was a pretty typical week last week. I finished my WGU application. I just have to fill out the new student orientation but I'm not supposed to do that until the end of November before I start. Start date...December 1st. I am very scared and a little excited. Ryan's birthday was Friday. He wanted Scott's spaghetti for dinner and Scott's hashbrowns for his belated birthday breakfast this morning. SWEET! I only had to make him a cake. Haha. Gabby helped with the web design. He wanted a Halloween spider cake. After dinner, we went to POJOs and then came home for cake and ice cream. We watched The Ring with Corbin after that. Such a creepy movie. I'm feeling a little crummy this weekend so I'm trying to lay low and rest up and do the minimum this weekend. Last night we went to the Adams' Halloween party and it was super fun as always. We had too much food and played a game and then watched a terrible horror movie. Oh man, there are so many bad ones. Today we had a Ryan birthday brunch.

Corbin went trick or treating with his friend and the girls went with Scott. I am resting at home and Ryan watched a youtube video about Halloween being the devil's holiday and refused to go. I couldn't talk him out of it. Oh well. He's on a weird health kick anyway and probably wouldn't eat the candy. I tried to get him to go and get candy for me but he wouldn't budge.

Everyone always does such a good job with costumes.

We are Arwen and Aragorn from Lord of the Rings.

Ryan was sweaty from his coon hat and had a runny/bloody nose??? Haha.

Playing some games.

Ryan is a raccoon, Harry Potter. He wanted to be a racoon but I don't think his costume will arrive on time. For now, he is Harry Potter raccoon.

Ryan casting a spell.

My co-worker Janet dressed up with me for twin day for red ribbon week. I love her!

This scream costume has served us well. I think Corbin has worn this costume for years.

Utah Visit

This past week was parent-teacher conference week. I had to stay late Tuesday and Wednesday night. I was so tired and burned out for work on Thursday. Luckily a teacher helped me come up with a brilliant lesson plan 5 minutes to the bell on Thursday. I could not think of anything I wanted to do. I didn't have any drama with any parents. I always wonder if something will come up. Luckily most parents aren't overly concerned with their child's progress in Teen Living.

I didn't bother to make appointments with Corbin or Gabby's teachers. They have too many teachers. I can check PowerSchool every day if I want to check on their progress. I figure if they are having behavior issues in class the teacher would let me know. Corbin and Gabby are both doing well. Piper and Ryan are doing well too. They are either grade level or above grade level. Piper has a 7th grade level in literature. I have no idea how. She never reads!

The kids didn't have school Thursday or Friday because of conferences and I didn't have school on Friday so we decided to head to Utah for our annual October trip. We left around 4:30 on Thursday. On Friday we went to Carole's house for Hannah's birthday party. After that, we headed up to Lagoon for Frightmares. It was SO crowded. Had we not prepaid for our tickets I would have turned around at the gate when we pulled up. We didn't even try to go on any of the good rides because the lines were so long. It was not my favorite. The weather was very nice and the trees looked beautiful. I also enjoyed a yummy caramel apple and hot chocolate. I think despite the lines the kids still had a good time. On Saturday Scott and I met up with a cousin for a visit. After that, I was able to go to lunch with my college bestie Jenny. She happened to be in Utah this past weekend too! Yay! That evening we headed back to Carole's cute house in Day Break for taco soup and a movie. It was a good day! Today Nana made a delicious birthday brunch for a combined Hannah and Ryan birthday celebration. Now we are headed home and I'm writing my blog post using the hot spot on my phone. I love that I am finishing this on my drive so I don't have to worry about it later. Woot!

Currently, I am applying to get into Governor's Western University to get my master's degree. I thought I would give myself a break but I finished my class on Friday and by Saturday I was like I am NOT waiting. I don't want to put something off that I want to get. Might as well do it now. GWU is self-paced and you pay by semester, not credit. A  couple of teachers at my school got their master's degree for $3,600 in 6 months. This is my goal. I don't know if it's realistic for me but I"m going to give it a go. I"m hoping to start in December. Fingers crossed!

Hannah's birthday party had face painting.

Cute face-painted girls. Gabby...yikes!

Ryan and me on the dragon.

Carole's cute Harry Potter house.

Ryan LOVES dogs!

Nana taught the kids how to cross-stitch.

Ryan presents!

Thanks Nana!

Cupcake Wars

Woot! I'm glad this past week is done on multiple levels. I kind of dread cupcake wars because it's a lot of work for me and it's tiring. This time around it actually wasn't that bad and I imagine it will continue to get better as I have more experience and get more systems in place. The worst part for me is dealing with the frosting. Frosting bags! Woof. My students had fun and did a great job so that was good. I was also able to use it as part of my last ISU assignment that I turned in on Friday. I'm so happy about that! The assignment requirements are sometimes confusing to me so I will be anxiously awaiting my grade to see if I'm truly done or if I will need to redo it. I had a bad headache for a couple of days and that was hard. Teaching is hard enough when you are at full capacity. I'm glad the headache is gone and it's the weekend!

My co-worker Janet and I decorated our door for college week. She has many degrees from many colleges but one of the college's mascot is the screamin' demon. That was too good! I insisted on doing that one, plus the colors purple and orange which is perfect for Halloween. I'm hoping our door wins the contest. I think it's good!

Friday night Scott and I got together with our friends and watched a doubleheader scary movie night. I was so mad because I fell asleep through parts of both and they were good movies. Blarg!

Scott and I made the kids rake some leaves yesterday. We have to rake leaves for weeks and weeks and weeks. Today is such a beautiful day. Fall is my favorite! Tonight I'm going to make some caramel popcorn balls.

Such a pretty fall day!

We decorated our door for college week.

Cupcake wars!

I put up a little Halloween decor.

Anniversary Weekend

Last week it was crummy to get sick and not be able to go to Utah but it was awesome in that I already had a sub lined up and didn't have to worry about work for a bit. I only felt sick for about 24 hours so the rest of the time I was able to get some cleaning and decluttering done. I was also able to work on my ISU classes. I turned in 3 assignments last week. So awesome! I only have one more assignment and I am doing it this week and I won't have t worry about it anymore. So excited!

We had the kids tested for Covid on Monday and all of them tested negative except for Piper. Piper didn't have any symptoms but had to stay home from school all week. We are hoping she can go back to school tomorrow.

It was our wedding anniversary on Friday. 16 years, weird! We were originally going to celebrate while we were in Utah but we decided to do an overnighter in Cascade instead. Cascade is smaller and doesn't have the same restaurant options as McCall but it's closer and we thought closer would be better for a short trip. We had one option for dinner and it was okay. For breakfast, we were able to go to a different restaurant and it was pretty good. Scott shared with the server that it was our anniversary and someone paid for our bill. That was so nice! Our hotel room was kind of a little rustic cabin type. It was pretty perfect for the setting. We had a great little getaway.

Gabby made this contraption so her door would close on its own.

Gabby made some homemade stickers. How? Haha.

Dinner at the Whistle Stop. It was okay. We were glad they were open!

Cascade Lake Inn

Grandma's for breakfast. Yum!

We Have The Rona

Gabby came home sick from school last Friday and she was apparently near a positive kid the previous Friday. It was a pretty mild cold but she couldn't go back to school without a negative test. We didn't want to deal or worry about it so we just opted for her to do her time away from school. Scott started to feel sick and decided he should get tested since none of his co workers are vaccinated. He indeed tested positive. I notified my work and was told I was okay to go to work as long as I was careful since I didn't have symptoms and I am vaccinated. I went to school that day and had the next three days off to go to a funeral and we were supposed to go to Utah. Thursday night my nose started running like crazy. I did have a slight sore throat all week. So I may have had the Rona earlier in the week? It's so hard to tell because I get bad allergies every fall and a sore throat and runny nose are very common for me. Friday morning I felt pretty mild cold symptoms but by about 11:30 I started to feel sick. I had a fever the rest of the day and stayed in bed all day. Yesterday I felt pretty okay. Scott just feels pretty crummy but not terrible. I think our symptoms aren't as bad because we are vaccinated. Gabby is better and the other kids don't seem sick. We are all going to get tested tomorrow. I'm hoping they all get negative tests so they can go back to school sooner. Fingers crossed. Just heard Ryan cough...we will see.

I had a classmate that I grew up with that died of Covid a week ago. I wanted to go to her funeral but I couldn't go because I was sick. Scott and I were originally supposed to go to Mexico this week with our friends but we canceled because we were worried about Covid stuff. Good thing we canceled. We decided to go to Utah instead and visit Scott's family and we had to cancel. That was a bummer. We were going to go to Lagoon's Frightmares and Scott and I were going to go to Heber to celebrate our Anniversary. Oh well. I already had a sub lined up until next Tuesday so that's nice. I will likely need to come up with some more sub plans. I am excited for some extra time to work on my ISU classes. I haven't had time or concentrated energy to work on it so far. I already turned in an assignment yesterday. Huzzah!

My sister Kelsey came into town for my brother's birthday gathering and she dropped off some dinner. So nice! My friend Krista also had some pizza delivered. Yay for friends and family. Now to figure out a grocery delivery and put up Halloween decorations.

Update: Cleaned the house and put up Halloween decor.

Scott's work dropped this by. Cutest!
