Getting ready to go to Mexico was a lot but it was worth it. Luckily, I lined up an amazing sub before school even started and she covered for me the whole week and even cooked with the students. That made me feel less guilty because the students didn't miss out while I was away and I got a middle of the school year vacation. Win, win. I had back up upon back up lesson plans so the sub would have more than enough work to give the students if needed. I lined up a place for Charly to go (with a friend who has one of Charly's siblings). We got packed and were off. Sunday was a long day and when we arrived we immediately lost $100. We paid for an excursion but part of the deal was we had to come back for a breakfast. We realized that was likely a push to sell a timeshare and we were out. We just kissed that money and excursion good bye. No thanks! Next time we will say no before we lose any money. Ha. I hate time share pushes possibly more than I had MLM's and that's a strong hate.
We stayed at the hotel the entire time and it was great. I would have liked to have done one activity but not enough to deal with figuring it out. We wanted a lazy relaxing vacation and that's what we got. The hotel is new and it was beautiful! There were four restaurants on site. The food was okay. Our favorite was the breakfast buffet. We stuffed ourselves to the gills every morning. For lunch we would order snacks or food poolside and then we would hit one of the restaurants at night. Our favorite was a churro dessert that was amazing. We also loved having gallons of smoothies all week. All of the entrée meals were okay. Nothing that we were dying over. Everyday I spent at least 6 hours by the pool swimming, eating, reading, and sometimes napping. It was glorious. By Wednesday I think we were all pretty ready to go but we enjoyed our last day at the pool. The kids were about sunned out by Thursday and their faces burned when we applied sunscreen. It was a lot of sun for them, especially Ryan who didn't leave the pool for more than a few minutes at a time for DAYS. The lazy river was the favorite. We spent hours in that thing. It was even more fun to walk and swim in than it was to use the inner tubes.
It was weird that is felt like summer but it would be get at 6:00, the pool area was dead at night. We were always tired from a long day at the pool and hours of darkness and we went to bed by 9:30 every night.
The hotel was right next to the ocean and that was beautiful. It wasn't a safe place to swim and was closed for swimming but we went for walks along the beach and it was glorious. We were so happy to come home on a Friday and have the entire weekend to recover and regroup for the real world tomorrow. I am mostly caught up with my grading and feel completely in control. I only have one more week before we get a break for Thanksgiving. I am stoked about that. I think every fall I may plan a trip because the stretch from the beginning of the school year to Thanksgiving is too long and I need a break!
Alright, well that's all. Picture overload time.

I spotted this sea turtle. It was so cute and sad to watch it struggle and finally make its way to the ocean. We named it Edison after Sam's turtle on Atypical. |
